The renowned magazine dealing with new technologies, PC Press, published a special addition “eHealth” on the rise of telemedicine and its importance, especially during the pandemic, when the healthcare system is overloaded and when this type of contactless examination of patients helps that the whole treatment system be more efficient and safer.

Telemedicine enables patients to reach physicians faster through video calls, and accelerates and enriches a new form of electronic information exchange between physicians and patients, as well as between physicians themselves.

“Pandemic overload of the healthcare system does not bring anything good to patients who are struggling with other, acute and chronic health issues. If we add to that the constant problems that patients who are physically far from healthcare centres are faced with, then it is not surprising that telemedicine has had strong incentives for development during the previous period”,writes PC Press about the new technology developed in Serbia by the company “Heliant”, and which has already been successfully applied in some healthcare facilities.

“We all know that it can be very difficult to be examined by a physician and a primary healthcare specialist. Waiting times for admission or intervention can be discouragingly long, and getting instructions does not guarantee a quick examination,” PC Press writes.

The magazine points to the wide application of telemedicine, which not only makes the exchange of information between patients and physicians faster and more comprehensive, but is also used in a consultative approach to treatment, as well as for teaching young physicians and specialists with telecommunication sessions instead during regular hospital visits.

“Your physician can forward diagnostic images, such as X-rays and your medical history to specialists. A telemedicine specialist may have enough information to make a diagnosis, even to prepare an appropriate treatment plan. If necessary, the specialist may contact you personally or your physician for additional information”, PC Press writes, which points out that in some areas telemedicine has already taken a significant place in the care of patients.

The application of telemedicine in cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, haematology and oncology, in the treatment of infectious diseases, in nephrology, gynaecology and obstetrics, psychiatry, pulmonology, urology or in solving emergencies is described in particular.
