In cooperation with the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Serbia, the company “Heliant” has developed a mobile application “My MS World” for people with multiple sclerosis, their families, but also all others who are interested in this issue.

More than 9,000 people in Serbia suffer from multiple sclerosis. The number of patients with this progressive autoimmune disease is on the rise in Serbia, as well as everywhere in the world.

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic autoimmune disease, characterized by inflammation in the central nervous system, resulting in damage to the nerve sheath and progressive reduction in nerve cell function. The disease results in impaired quality of life of the patient and potentially in permanent disability.

Multiple sclerosis can occur at any age, but is most commonly diagnosed in patients between 20 and 50 years of age, more often in women than men. It is one of the most common causes of disability in the young adult population.

The content of the mobile application “My MS World” was defined in workshops attended by patients with multiple sclerosis, healthcare professionals and members of the Heliant R&D team.

“The workshops in which defined the application were intense, educational and so interesting. We set ourselves the task of demystifying multiple sclerosis and making a practical application that will facilitate the daily functioning of people suffering from this disease”, says Andrea Đokić, member of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Serbia at an online workshop dedicated to presenting the first mobile application “My MS World” for all patients with multiple sclerosis.

Online workshop attendees: Dragana Šutović-Ilić from the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Serbia, PhD/MD Jelena Drulović, Andrea Đokić from the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Serbia and Filip Maljković, Development Manager in the company “Heliant”.

The mobile application “My MS World” is conceptually divided into three parts. The first is educational content, the second part serves to support patients in fulfilling their daily activities.

The third part contains the information on various therapeutic modalities for this disease and gives patients the opportunity to fill in certain questionnaires and tests to self-assess their health. In this way, patients are enabled to monitor the course of their disease and independently assess their current health condition, which contributes to a better understanding of the disease by the patient and strengthening the doctor-patient relationship.

“Education is something that is an absolute necessity in the treatment of patients with multiple sclerosis, making a decision on the treatment of the disease is, in a broader sense, a joint decision between the doctor and the patient. The educated patient is trained to better transfer experiences to the doctor who treats him/her”, points out PhD/MD Jelena Drulović from the Clinic of Neurology, University Clinical Centre of Serbia.

During the design and development of the application, special attention is paid to data protection. The user of the application can load important documents and save them on his/her phone. Users pointed this out as very useful since their tests and reports are easily accessible and safe.

The mobile application is free and can be downloaded from the Google Play and App Store platforms, which 800 users has done to date.

The company “Heliant” is very proud to have taken part in the development of this mobile application, which will significantly improve the quality of life of patients with multiple sclerosis.
