“I am otherwise quite sceptical of all technical innovations and have long resisted the implementation of the information system. Euromedic is therefore perhaps the last big facility that has implemented the information system. Nevertheless, we finally had the best information system implemented”, saysMD Nenad Zlatarić, the ownerof Euromedic, one of the largest and most renowned private healthcare facilities in Serbia

His fears, as he says, were primarily concerned with data security, but he had also considered financial aspects. The practice, however, showed that there was no reason for fear.

“Our information system has several practical aspects and can be modelled – to include new parameters and new services, which we occasionally do”, Zlatarić explains.

According to him, Heliant’s main advantages are storage of data and medical findings, control and improvement of quality and services provided, security, internal statistical analysis and – savings.

Here are some of the benefits of the implementation of Heliant information systems, as pointed out by MD Zlatarić:

No more printing

Heliant allows us to safely, reliably store all the information we receive about our patients, which information is easily accessible: from their general information to medical findings. Owing to this, we can easily find them without printing them, because it is no longer a legal obligation to have a hard copy thereof.

Savings

Objectively, this information system was initially cheaper than I expected. For a small healthcare facility, this price is equal to two or three computers. On the other hand, it made certain savings.

The mere fact that we do not print the information on the paper to keep it in the archive, makes savings on the annual level, which practically covers the costs of maintaining the system. Heliant, therefore, pays itself out.

Quality control

Heliant allows us to know where the client is in the system at any moment – whether he/she is on the pay desk, whether he/she is waiting for an examination, whether he/she has finished the examination, when he/she has finished the examination.

In this way it is possible to control the duration of an examination or a medical service, given that we have standardized minimum time-tables for examination duration, which protect the quality of work of physicians and services.

As a job organizer, I have an accurate information how long a particular medical examination lasted. Also, there is a modality that records any violation of this procedure. If that happens, I talk to the doctor, I notify him/her of this deficiency and thus protect our clients.

Statistics and strategy

The system also allows us to make certain types of statistical analyses based on the obtained data. These are strictly for internal use, since any information about medical examinations cannot in any way be disclosed to the public or come to the possession of another person who is not an authorized person in Euromedik.

These statistical analyses are important for us to make strategic decisions regarding the procedures that should be introduced, procurement of equipment, and quality improvement, says MD Nenad Zlatarić, the owner ofEuromedik.
