The Future is Now conference, dedicated to innovations in healthcare, brought together experts from digital medicine, healthcare facilities, and the technology sector in Belgrade. They presented current solutions and practices in the fields of telemedicine, data management, and the digital transformation of the healthcare system.

The conference explored ways in which information systems, e-consultations, artificial intelligence, and standardized data exchange could improve the operation of healthcare facilities and enhance treatment outcomes.

As part of the panel titled “Smart Diabetes Care: eDiabetes and the eDiabetic Foot”, which included vascular surgeon PhD/MD Igor Končar, Head of the Development Team at Heliant Filip Maljković, and President of the Blue Circle Association Bojana Marković, participants discussed how new technologies were used in the treatment of patients with complications such as diabetic foot. The panel was moderated by MD Ivana Božović, a journalist at RTS, and organized by Mladen Kovaček, Director of the HIT Conference.

Drawing on experience with the Hermes data exchange system developed by Heliant, Maljković presented how connecting healthcare facilities enabled doctors to access all key information in a timely manner, speeded up decision-making, and ensured better coordinated care, as well as more precise and safer treatments.

Maljković noted that with the use of Hermes, telemedicine and e-consultations were becoming part of everyday clinical practice, and that tangible results were already visible, both in the efficiency of healthcare and for patient treatment outcomes.

This approach is of exceptional importance in the treatment of diabetic foot, where coordinated work across multiple levels of healthcare is crucial for timely and successful treatment.

During the conference, several key issues in modern healthcare were raised, including how artificial intelligence could be integrated into cardiovascular integrated clinical pathways, as well as innovations and challenges in communication. There was also discussion on the impact of the European Health Data Space Regulation (EHDS) on Serbia.
