In the FUTURE IS NOW podcast, PhD/MD Igor Končar, vascular surgeon at the University Clinical Centre of Serbia (UCCS), and Filip Maljković, Head of the Development Team at Heliant, discussed how digital solutions were transforming the treatment of complex conditions such as diabetic foot.
The conversation was opened with key questions of modern healthcare: how to ensure that doctors should have all the necessary information on time, how to accelerate decision-making, and how to provide more precise and safer therapy.
Filip Maljković presented how telemedicine, e-consultations, and Heliant’s Hermes data exchange system connected healthcare institutions, speeded up treatment processes, and made teamwork easier in everyday practice.
“Through the Hermes data exchange system, we enable telemedicine and e-consultations to become part of everyday practice, and we are already seeing tangible results — both in the efficiency of team work and in patient outcomes,” Maljković said.
MD Končar emphasized the importance of collaboration between the healthcare and IT sectors, as well as the acceptance of technology by doctors and patients — something that became particularly evident during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“When treatment takes place at all three levels of healthcare, as is the case with diabetic foot, the Hermes system significantly facilitates patient assessment, enables faster response, and simplifies the treatment process,” MD Končar noted.
During the conversation, MD Končar and Maljković also discussed how mobile applications could help patients and doctors track therapy, how AI could predict the risk of abdominal aortic rupture, how voice-to-text applications that recognized speech could save doctors’ time, and other practical examples.
These topics will also be discussed live on December 4 in Belgrade, at the 23rd FUTURE IS NOW Conference on Healthcare Innovation, which will bring together leading experts and representatives of healthcare facilities from across the region.
