The first conference entitled “Patient Safety – Serbia 2024” was held at the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade on World Patient Safety Day, which is celebrated today.

The aim of the conference is to improve the quality of healthcare, with a special emphasis on safety and improving the position of patients in the modern healthcare system. Particular attention is paid to the use of artificial intelligence in the timely and accurate diagnosis of patients’ health condition.

As a guest in the RTS1 TV channel morning show, Anđelka Zečević from the Association for Patient Safety of Serbia, as a member of the organizing team said that artificial intelligence had the capacity to influence more accurate diagnostics through algorithms that were capable of detecting various interesting laws and phenomena in the data structuring and thus support doctors in decision-making.

MD/PhD Arsen Ristić from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade, added that hospital information systems supported by artificial intelligence would significantly facilitate the work of specialist doctors, by sending a signal when there was a mistake in their actions, when they should expand diagnostic procedures regarding the patient, and most importantly when they might be making mistakes in relation to the treatment of patients.
