The IFMSA-Serbia medical education team, in cooperation with the company “Heliant”, delivered the second lecture in a series of lectures on the use of the Heliant Health information system for students in the final years of the Faculty of Medicine and young newly graduated doctors at the UCCS Emergency Centre.

On duty activities in the Emergency Centre require a lot of effort from doctors, and in addition to taking care of patients, doctors also have to take care of the proper management of medical records. In order to perform this task easier and faster, the Medical Education team of the Committee of International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations IFMSA-Serbia, led by Marko Dimitrijević, organized a lecture on the basics of using the Heliant health information system, with a focus on work in the Emergency Centre of the University Clinical Centre of Serbia.

Initially easy to use, the Heliant system was upgraded over time and became increasingly complex and challenging, but also significantly more useful. IFMSA Serbia has recognized the need of young doctors to be continuously educated on the use of software, especially in the emergency department, where time and efficiency are essential. The best way to do this was through cooperation with the company “Heliant”, which, as a designer of the software, knew its characteristics best.

Medical students and doctors were demonstrated the basic functionalities in the Heliant system, which they would use in the future. The lecture was held at the University Children’s Clinic “Tiršova”, and was attended by more than 50 students. Danijela Marković, senior implementer at the company “Heliant”, during the implementation and communication with the users of the Emergency Centre, was familiarized with the challenges faced by doctors and paid special attention to those parts of the system during education. Beside Daniela, Filip Maljković, head of the development team at the “Heliant” company, participated in the presentation of the Heliant information system.

The goals of the education were continuous training of medical professionals outside of regular university education, more efficient provision of healthcare in the emergency department, faster examination and better focus on patients.

Educational lectures of this type proved to be extremely useful, and due to the high attendance, more such trainings are planned during the year. This event was three times more attended than the previous one. The next one will be held in April, also in Belgrade, with a focus on more advanced IS Heliant functionalities, and one will also be organized in Niš.

IFMSA in Serbia, as the organizer of this event, received the first prize at the “IFMSA General Assembly March Meeting 2024” in Ecuador for the innovative project of delivering a lecture on the health information system Heliant.
