The 4th regional conference on “Genetic therapy in rare diseases” organized by the Citizen Association for Fighting Rare Diseases in Children “Život”, was held yesterday in Novi Sad.

 

The attendees were greeted by Bojana Mirosavljević, President of the “Život” Association, MD Jelena Janković from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia, MD/PhD Sanja Radojević Škodrić from the National Health Insurance Fund of Serbia (RFZO) and Mrs. Tamara Vučić, First Lady of Serbia.

MD Nevena Veljković, Science and Research Manager at Heliant and scientific advisor at the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences, spoke about how digitization could be a valuable partner in fighting rare diseases. In addition to MD Veljković, in the introductory part of the conference lectures were given by Jelena Bojović and MD Branislava Gemović from the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR), who presented amendments to the Rulebook on the method of drug control.

Jadranka Mirković from the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices (ALIMS) presented the role of ALIMS in the availability of genetic therapy in our country, while Assistant Professor MD/PhD Predrag Rodić from the University Children’s Clinic “Tiršova” talked about the approach to genetic therapy and when it would be the best choice for a patient.

The conference was attended also by the representatives of companies and healthcare facilities from the region, Europe and the USA. The event ended with a panel discussion on “Genetic therapies from different perspectives”, moderated by Ivana Badnjarević.
