On September 12 as part of the “AI under the stars” series, the Centre for Public Policy Research and the Serbian AI Society organized another panel in cooperation with the Science Promotion Centre (CPN), at the Belgrade Science Club.

The use of artificial intelligence in healthcare was addressed at the panel “From Code to Medicine: Medical Research with Artificial Intelligence”.

The company Heliant was represented by Nevena Veljković, Ph.D., Research and Science Manager, who answered the questions: What is hidden behind innovative medical solutions that use artificial intelligence? What role does data availability play in medical research priorities with the use of artificial intelligence? How much does the ability of artificial intelligence to analyse large databases and recognize connections affect the classical medical approach? together with Danica Despotović, Ph.D. (data scientist) and Dragorad Milovanović, M.Sc. (Informatics Association of Serbia).

The panelists also addressed ethical issues related to the use of data and decision-making within medical research: How is medical research approved today? What is the role of ethics committees and regulatory agencies? What kind of regulation do we need to ensure transparency, integrity and accountability in the use of AI in medical research?

The moderator of the panel was Branka Anđelković, MSc (Centre for Public Policy Research).
